Water Revelation:
Brazil

Venuz White finds inspiration in ancestral practices and technologies to visually present the "Voices of Water” manifested through colour pigments, water and voice vibrations. As a result of a digital artist-in-residence programme at ÚNA, the Colombian artist will unveil for the first time ever her "Water Revelations", a series of contemporary rituals bringing together five female voices from Brazil, Scotland, Chile, Mexico and Argentina.

This is the Water Revelation from Brazil, represented by Hannah, Simony and Ivani from the Pataxó Indigenous peoples in Porto do Boi, Bahía.

The Pataxó Ritual

The name Pataxó comes from the sound of waves hitting rocks and going back to the sea.

The Porto do Boi community belongs to the Indigenous Pataxó in South Bahia, currently living inside their protected land in different communities. Porto do Boi consists of a close family circle, rooted around community living, harmony with nature and spirituality.

This is the Awê ritual of the Pataxó, welcoming the rain season, recorded specially for ÚNA Fest.

Awê for them means love, union and spirituality.

Minük

A universal transmission of union and peace, a solar expression of joy. Star code melodies and compelling chants coexist in an updated refined synergy: the merging of two remarkable artists whose radiant love and music bring the world a bit closer. Minük is characterized by weaving voices and strings in a swirling harmonious tapestry rooted in South American and African percussion. Almunis and Marcus take turns leading and supporting each other, seamlessly flowing between English and Spanish songs.

Time and the Seashell
(Kii Nche Ndutsa)

A young Indigenous boy imagines his future while listening to the sounds of a seashell, while an Indigenous man recalls his past listening to the same shell. The man remembers listening to birds and looking at fireflies in his childhood, but these are no longer there. The short film invites an audience to consider past, present and future of a changing landscape and vanishing biodiversity.

Director Statement

In Mesoamerica the seashell is a symbol for time. This short film invites us to reflect on past, present and future in a changing landscape where the natural environment is slowly disappearing.
